All living creatures on earth have evolved to be in rhythm with the earth, the moon, and the sun. In terms of the Earth, we have rhythms involving the 24 hour rotation of the Earth called the Circadian Rhythm. Humans have evolved to function as though two entirely different creatures, one of the day and one of the night. By day, humans are active, alert, with high metabolic rates, and loving healthy carbohydrates. By night, humans are hibernal and still, with slow metabolic rates, and consuming carbohydrates becomes harmful.
In her presentation, Dr. Gersh will review all of the foundational and scientific knowledge as it relates to Circadian Rhythm. She will explain what it is and the basics of central and peripheral clock genes and the incredibly important function of this rhythm in the maintenance of metabolic homeostasis of the body. Dr. Gersh also will explain that the gut microbiome has its own clocks, every microbial cell comprising the gut microbiota has a clock and in a healthy state, the clocks of the microbiome are in synchrony with the clocks of our own cells. The ways in which the synchronization of all clocks, both ours and those of our microbiota matter will be reviewed.
Practical steps one can take to properly reset and maintain ones clocks to have a healthy Circadian Rhythm will be reviewed and a protocol provided!
