About Our Presenters:
Christopher Giza, MD graduated from Dartmouth College, received his M.D. from West Virginia University and completed his internship at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Giza then trained in Adult and Pediatric Neurology at UCLA. He then worked on the Yosemite Search and Rescue team before joining the UCLA Brain Injury Research Center. Dr. Giza traveled to Afghanistan in 2011 as a civilian advisor to the Department of Defense.
Dr. Giza co-chaired the American Academy of Neurology’s committee that developed an evidence-based Practice Guideline for Management of Sports Concussions from 2009-2013. He currently serves on advisory committees for TBI/concussion with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Collegiate Athletic Association, Major League Soccer, and United States Soccer Federation, and has been a clinical consultant for the National Football League, National Hockey League, and Major League Soccer.
He is currently Professor of Pediatric Neurology and Neurosurgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine and Mattel Children’s Hospital and director of the UCLA Steve Tisch BrainSPORT program.
Catherine Miller is a Senior Risk Management and Patient Safety Specialist for the Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc. (CAP). She has more than 18 years of experience developing and implementing customized risk reduction solutions for the healthcare community.
In her current role with CAP’s CAPAssurance program, Ms. Miller spearheads the development and execution of clinical risk management and patient safety programs for hospitals. The CAPAssurance team, including Ms. Miller, collaborates with health care organizations to proactively mitigate risk, implement a ‘culture of safety’ and facilitate risk identification and analysis of adverse events. Ms. Miller previously served as Risk Management & Patient Safety Consultant for CAP’s Mutual Protection Trust.
Ms. Miller earned her law degree at Loyola Law School. She also graduated from The University of Virginia with a BSN, and was in the National Nursing Honors Society. In addition, she earned a BA in English Literature form the University of Michigan.
