If you are considering a change in your practice this year or in 2024, please notify CAP as soon as possible so our Membership Services Department can work with you to ensure that any necessary coverage transitions are implemented smoothly. Changes include, but are not limited to: Retirement from practice at age 55+, part-time practice (e.g., 20 or fewer hours per week or 16 hours for anesthesiologists), or reduction or any change in the scope of your practice.

With input from several subject matter experts, CAP created a free online COVID-19 Resource Center that includes webinars focused on a variety of issues Including telemedicine, the CARES Act, and medical practice staffing. Originally created as a member resource in March at the onset of the pandemic, CAP continues to update and refresh this microsite.

Question: I have five staff members in my medical practice and I read somewhere that California now requires sexual harassment prevention training for employees. Does my office need to meet this requirement or does this not apply to small businesses?

Physicians and office staff understand that the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is federal law. It was designed to provide privacy standards to protect patients’ medical records and other health information. Nevertheless, many fail to recognize that they are not in compliance with federal privacy laws enacted since HIPAA. With an increase in the number of audits conducted for HIPAA compliance and larger penalty amounts, failing to comply with federal privacy laws is not something you can afford to do.
