Information about Electronic Prescribing

Electronic prescribing (or e-Rx) can be very helpful if the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system saves the information as part of the patient's medical record.

All physician and caregiver offices should be migrating to an all-electronic prescription system. If physicians who use EHRs are not e-prescribing, prescriptions should be captured by scanning the paper prescription into the EHR or fully documenting the name, dose, quantity, instructions, and refill amount.

On-Demand Webinar: Key Strategies for Ensuring a Profitable Independent Practice
During this one-hour program, practice management expert Debra Phairas discusses how various business models and operational enhancements can increase revenue to help your practice remain successful in today’s competitive marketplace.

Physicians and caregivers should know the source of drug and clinical decision support information in their EHRs, because they may be held accountable to the clinical standards of care for their specialty and for the information in FDA-approved drug labels or drug alerts.

Always verify with the CURES system for patient safety and security. All refill medication requests should be processed through your electronic system.
