The Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc. (CAP) is proud to join the San Joaquin Medical Society in hosting a free, no-obligation risk management presentation designed to help physicians run safer, more successful practices.

The program objectives are:

• Learn the perceived benefits of an EHR system, such as instant physician and patient access.
• Explore the risks to practice, physician and associated staff, in their established software programs.
• Discuss the differences between boilerplate vs. customized treatment plan templates.
• Explore system issues with tracking and recall, audit trails, as well as direct communications with patients, care teams, and management.
• Discuss the pros and cons of email including patient portal communication and documentation.
• Learn security best practices with an overview of HIPAA, HITECH and California Medical Information Acts.
• Formulate training requirements for periodic and regular updates, new enhancements and tools.
• Identify risk management strategies for documentation, HIPAA, training, safeguards, and routines.

Allan Ridings brings more than 30 years of experience in risk management and health care operations to CAP’s Risk Management and Patient Safety Department. Prior to joining CAP, Mr. Ridings was the Executive Director for Mission Ob/Gyn Medical Group in Mission Viejo and San Clemente, and Mission Children’s Medical Group in Mission Viejo, where he developed and implemented risk management tools and assessments, instituted Total Quality Management/Continuous Quality Improvement (TQM/CQI) processes, as well as researched and implemented electronic medical records systems for the group’s practices.

The Mutual Protection Trust (MPT) is authorized under Section 1280.7 of the California Insurance Code as an unincorporated interindemnity arrangement among physician members of the Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc. (CAP). Members do not pay insurance premiums. Instead, they pay tax-deductible assessments, based on risk classifications, for the amount necessary to pay claims and administrative costs. No assurance can be given as to the amount or frequency of assessments. Members also make a tax-deductible Initial Trust Deposit, which is refundable according to the terms of the MPT Agreement. ©2016
